This Week!

Our new letter this week is Mm.

Our read a-loud was a book about a fancy meal.  Students used this idea to create their favourite meal at our must do centre.  They are also encouraged to retell this story at our felt board centre.

Our new centres reflect our new theme of community helpers.

Our architect centre was very busy today.
If you have any recyclable materials to donate to this centre we would appreciate it!

Students draw up a plan before they start to build.

Loose parts are all about faces.  Once a face is completed, students take a picture of their creation!

Our Home Project!

‘I am Unique’ Home Project

During the next month, we will be learning more about ourselves and what makes each other unique in our classroom community. As part of our learning, your child will be asked to complete a small home project that shares about their own uniqueness. Your child will then have an opportunity to present their project in front of the class.

The purpose of this project is to discover more about ourselves and what makes us special, how we can use our special skills and talents to enhance our classroom community and how to appreciate the similarities and differences that make others special and unique. Students will also develop skills of how to speak in front of others.

At school, we will be working on our physical characteristics by drawing and creating self-portraits. We will also be exploring what we think we will be like in the future.

At home, we would ask that you help your child with creating the following:
-make a poster (paper provided) that highlights your child’s interests, talents, language and culture using pictures, drawings, words, art, etc. (please feel free to do the writing for your child and have them trace over the letters with another colour as we are still practicing letter formation)
-choose one artifact that your child can bring to school on their presentation day that tells us about them
-practice your child’s presentation with them (the presentation can include ‘reading’ their poster and telling us the who, what, where, when and why about their artifact)

During the week of March 9th, students will be presenting their poster and artifact. We would like to invite any parents who want to come in and watch their child’s presentation to do so. (It is only a 2-3 minute presentation, so don’t feel like you have to ;) )

The AM presentation schedule is as follows and we will begin presentations at 9:15 each day:
